How to Save the Massachusetts Cranberry Industry?

Since the state and federal government refuses to act, we do. The Save Massachusetts Cranberry Bogs Foundation is the first and only nonprofit working directly with struggling cranberry farmers to ensure their survival.

We provide:

  • Grants for small farms to cover operational costs and sustainability efforts.

  • Volunteer labor to assist with harvests and bog maintenance.

  • Gift-A-Bog Initiative, allowing landowners to donate abandoned bogs to be revived rather than developed.

  • Land conservation programs to protect bogs from corporate acquisition.

  • Research initiatives to help small growers compete with industrial farms.

The Gift-A-Bog Initiative: Saving Massachusetts’ Cranberry Heritage One Bog at a Time

When family-owned cranberry bogs go under, they are often snapped up by developers or Big Ag, stripping the land of its historical and agricultural significance. Our Gift-A-Bog program allows property owners to transfer abandoned bogs to our nonprofit, ensuring they remain cranberry-producing lands. The process is simple, done through a Massachusetts quitclaim deed, and provides property owners with tax benefits while protecting the land from development.

Why We Fight for Small Cranberry Farmers

Massachusetts lawmakers may have abandoned small cranberry farmers, but we refuse to let this legacy disappear. Without action, small family-owned bogs will vanish, taking with them centuries of history, tradition, and the state's signature fruit.

If you believe in saving Massachusetts’ iconic cranberry industry, supporting small farmers, and preserving our agricultural heritage, we need your help. Donate, volunteer, or support policy changes to ensure that Massachusetts' cranberry farms thrive for generations to come.
